This is a bit late, but Wednesday before last Adam and I popped into David Dallas’, The Rose Tint pop up store. From Wednesday to Saturday of last week the D.Dot team took over Conch in Ponsonby, the idea being that since the album had been so well received online, hitting over 50,000 downloads that they’d give the fans something physical and a little special to celebrate it. The pop up store was therefore selling a deluxe version of the album featuring four new tracks and a disc of backing tracks for wannabe musicians to try their own stuff with, #tintsquad lighters, badges, money boxes, t-shirts and hoodies, and daily prizes along with daily performances by some of New Zealand’s best hip hop and rnb acts and the presence of, of course David Dallas himself. They chose Conch because they wanted to support New Zealand music and independent New Zealand music retailers. It also probably helps that it was next door to the very very yummy Il Buco pizza joint.
Adam and I ended up getting there a bit late due to work and a very very painful massage appointment, missing D.Dot’s set as a result but the place was still buzzing and I ended up getting an album and some lighters. Looking back I only wish I’d got more. I got my album signed by D.Dot and we managed to get snapped by Lani Says in the process.
Since then The Rose Tint has hit number 3 on the NZ Music chart making it the highest NZ Hip Hop ranking album of 2011. Not too shabby eh?
If you haven’t heard David Dallas before, get yourself online and get yourself tinted up. Now.
