This is a bit late, but Wednesday before last Adam and I popped into David Dallas’, The Rose Tint pop up store. From Wednesday to Saturday of last week the D.Dot team took over Conch in Ponsonby, the idea being that since the album had been so well received online, hitting over 50,000 downloads that they’d give the fans something physical and a little special to celebrate it. The pop up store was therefore selling a deluxe version of the album featuring four new tracks and a disc of backing tracks for wannabe musicians to try their own stuff with, #tintsquad lighters, badges, money boxes, t-shirts and hoodies, and daily prizes along with daily performances by some of New Zealand’s best hip hop and rnb acts and the presence of, of course David Dallas himself. They chose Conch because they wanted to support New Zealand music and independent New Zealand music retailers. It also probably helps that it was next door to the very very yummy Il Buco pizza joint.

Adam and I ended up getting there a bit late due to work and a very very painful massage appointment, missing D.Dot’s set as a result but the place was still buzzing and I ended up getting an album and some lighters. Looking back I only wish I’d got more. I got my album signed by D.Dot and we managed to get snapped by Lani Says in the process.

Since then The Rose Tint has hit number 3 on the NZ Music chart making it the highest NZ Hip Hop ranking album of 2011. Not too shabby eh?

If you haven’t heard David Dallas before, get yourself online and get yourself tinted up. Now.

All girl young rock type bands scare me. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I think that in real life I’d be really intimidated by them. Or maybe just because I don’t understand how so many girls can be in a band together, because that assumes that at some point they were all close friends.

But f*ckaria or whatever they’re called are kinda interesting.

What’s with all the new stuff that throws back to the 80’s in a weird way on juice tonight?

Other girls that scare me include:

Thirteen, the whole story is fucked.
Tatu, the fact that the lesbian thing was a publicity stunt of sorts is just too Russian for me to understand.
And big groups of pretty girls that all bitch about each other behind each others backs but claim to be bffs and are all tiny yet eat crazy bad for you food. I just don’t understand.

I’m also disturbed by identical twins.

I tend to always leave Mudford & Hans’ obsessing about a song. This is last nights obsession. I’ve been sketching dresses alot, I plan on going nuts with my sewing machine when uni finishes for the year, but I think I may also have to have a stab at the playsuit Eliza wears in this video…

I haven’t mentioned this yet but I’m extremely excited for Big Day Out ‘11. I’m listening to my BDO’11 playlist now and my skin is literally tingling in anticipation. Big Day Out is without contest the best day of the year.

Still hitting them corners in them low low’s girl’

A random date popped into my head just before causing me to realise that it has been exactly six months since the Croatian club christmas party, and tomorrow Devonstock. I’m freakishly good at remembering dates. It’s odd because the dates line up to the same days of the week. What it also made me realise is how much has changed in six months, but at the same time so little, and especially how much happened specifically on this night but also on surrounding days and nights. In any case it for certain made me realise that I haven’t seen Alice in a very long time and I miss her. I also miss summer music festivals, those sunglasses, hanging out with people during the day and going places and partying with Ivana and Amelia.
