On Valentines day I was working for my aunt, as her boss was away it was very quiet in the office allowing me to stroll my way around the internet to a point at which I was just sitting there refreshing tumblr, twitter and the NZ Herald. This proved to be somewhat fateful when a tweet appeared from Under The Radar announcing a last chance release of tickets to Aloe Blacc, American soul singer.
This left me completely and utterly rapt as only the week before on attempting to purchase these tickets I had been rejected by an apparent sell out. It proved to also be opportune as despite my rather negative supply of gift giving on Valentines day, and my boyfriends complete repulsion to the concept of receiving gifts I suddenly had the perfect, irrefutable gift.

Needless to say, Aloe Blacc tickets were indeed a gift that Adam could only praise me over, and so that night we set out to dinner with a great sense of self satisfaction in our hearts and excitement for the following wednesday.
That Wednesday, last night to be precise we headed off to the Studio, rat pack in tow to a crowd that definitely wasn’t rat pack at all.

In any case, after realising that sight would be impossible on the ground Adam and I headed up stairs. Upon finding a perfect spot Maya Jupiter, an Australian rapper started doin’ her thing. I’d never heard of her before but whoa baby. Hot, a sexy voice and a talented way of using it I’m now quite intrigued. Watch this space.
The main and most important part of the evening soon began with Aloe Blacc’s band lightly licking at the beats of major songs. The man himself emerged with the tension fit to burst in a grey suit, a cheese cutter and a hella lot of personality. While I wish I could claim to have recorded the track listing and come up with good critique of his performance etc to be honest I was distracted by just watching him. I could almost say that I was paralysed by his stage presence, while I most certainly got my groove on I was also quite happy to just stare in awe. Big highlights/ moments of interest were his cover of Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean (almost irrecognisable, totally awesome), Miss Fortune, playing I Need A Dollar twice and Femme Fatale.

Afterwards we trailed out into the foyer to bump right into the man himself, and so uncharacteristically I got signatures, and the boys snagged a photo. (I was the camerawoman =[)
I have to say it, it was possibly one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.
Hey there brother!
